A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency's block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history. ------------------------------------------------------------------- BUY BITCOIN SAFELY HERE: http://bit.ly/BuyBitcoinNow ------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTER FOR A COINBASE ACCOUNT: http://bit.ly/CoinbaseBitcoinSignup ------------------------------------------------------------------- Every block contains a hash of the previous block. This has the effect of creating a chain of blocks from the genesis block to the current block. Each block is guaranteed to come after the previous block chronologically because the previous block's hash would otherwise not be known. Each block is also computationally impractical to modify once it has been in the chain for a while because every block after it would also have to be regenerated. These properties are what make double-spending of bitcoins very difficult. The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. Honest generators only build onto a block (by referencing it in blocks they create) if it is the latest block in the longest valid chain. "Length" is calculated as total combined difficulty of that chain, not number of blocks, though this distinction is only important in the context of a few potential attacks. A chain is valid if all of the blocks and transactions within it are valid, and only if it starts with the genesis block. For any block on the chain, there is only one path to the genesis block. Coming from the genesis block, however, there can be forks. One-block forks are created from time to time when two blocks are created just a few seconds apart. When that happens, generating nodes build onto whichever one of the blocks they received first. Whichever block ends up being included in the next block becomes part of the main chain because that chain is longer. More serious forks have occurred after fixing bugs that required backward-incompatible changes. Blocks in shorter chains (or invalid chains) are not used for anything. When the bitcoin client switches to another, longer chain, all valid transactions of the blocks inside the shorter chain are re-added to the pool of queued transactions and will be included in another block. The reward for the blocks on the shorter chain will not be present in the longest chain, so they will be practically lost, which is why a network-enforced 100-block maturation time for generations exists. These blocks on the shorter chains are often called "orphan" blocks. This is because the generation transactions do not have a parent block in the longest chain, so these generation transactions show up as orphan in the listtransactions RPC call. Several pools have misinterpreted these messages and started calling their blocks "orphans". In reality, these blocks have a parent block, and might even have children. Because a block can only reference one previous block, it is impossible for two forked chains to merge. • How do Bitcoin Transactions Work? http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-do-bitcoin-transactions-work/ ------------------------------------------------------------------- DID YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy this video? Talks at Google in London were delighted to welcome Alex Tapscott to talk about his book Blockchain Revolution, looking at how the technology behind Bitcoin can reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Alex can be found on Twitter at: @alextapscott Book on Google Play - with free first chapter! https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Don_Tapscott_Blockchain_Revolution?id=bwz_CwAAQBAJ About the Book: The technology likely to have the greatest impact on the future of the world economy has arrived, and it's not self-driving cars, solar energy, or artificial intelligence. It’s called the blockchain. The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the Internet of information. The second generation powered by blockchain technology is bringing us the Internet of value: a new, distributed platform that can help us reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Blockchain is the ingeniously simple, revolutionary protocol that allows transactions to be simultaneously anonymous and secure by maintaining a tamperproof public ledger of value. Though it's the technology that drives bitcoin and other digital currencies, the underlying framework has the potential to go far beyond these and record virtually everything of value to humankind, from birth and death certificates to insurance claims and even votes. Why should you care? Maybe you're a music lover who wants artists to make a living off their art. And those examples are barely the tip of the iceberg. This technology is public, encrypted, and readily available for anyone to use. It's already seeing widespread adoption in a number of areas. For example, forty-two (and counting) of the world's biggest financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Credit Suisse, have formed a consortium to investigate the blockchain for speedier and more secure transactions. As with major paradigm shifts that preceded it, the blockchain will create winners and losers. And while opportunities abound, the risks of disruption and dislocation must not be ignored. About the Author: Alex Tapscott is the CEO and Founder of Northwest Passage Ventures, an advisory firm building industry-leading blockchain businesses. Formerly, Alex was a senior executive at Canaccord Genuity, Canada’s largest independent investment bank. At age 25, he became the firm’s youngest-ever Vice President and in 2014, he founded the firm’s blockchain practice. Over his career, Alex has worked tirelessly for his clients, raising hundreds of millions of dollars in growth capital from a global institutional investor base, and provided sound advice and counsel.

Block chain a hot topic in the world of art since Bitcoins from sitting emerged pushes nerds to be in the world around 2013 Marketing love bright new technologies for the entertainment of their work day and has seen the band wagon to prove with the latest trends worn to prove, because a spark realized that the newborn things points could be used flyers to try out the latest in wigs to promote and overhead powder. But as traders across other trends as the growth of Snap chat or live video, like a rash, they really "get" what the message may come to them really do. I think that in two important mainly because it: Block the chain is the result of an incredibly intelligent cryptography and is therefore very difficult to understand. This makes it much more difficult to trade important data to differentiate live video Facebook said, are the obvious effects. Block chain is firmly attached to write. People know that the block chain as the technology behind it, marketing and so on the bright Bitcoins through the first and not the technology underlying block chain. This is to their disadvantage, because if the data written probably were massively exaggerated. The consequences of the suspension chain will be enormous. So with these two hypotheses about why traders are rather the art of the block chain to understand and adopt, it will deliver both try to answer - the first of the structural block chain easy to make, easy to understand, then all fabulously interesting cars introducing chain block, which is not credited to the nacelle. If you already have your hashes of your decentralized leathers day, skip the first bit and the second will. What block chains? As one Tien said: "Everything should be as simple as possible, but not simpler." Block the chain is a complicated animal, but there are fundamental principles can be simplified. Essentially, this means that all (as a transaction) and recording not only a central authority (such as a bank) stores. All recordings are synchronized, and the system can not play, because all records must match. When I changed my block chain to say you pay me 200 pounds, the system would not allow it, because my files not with all the others would agree. That is essentially what the chain block 'unhackable' opens. So what makes great tool chain? This means that we can extend the trust without a central authority is needed. This looks like a fairly academic point, but trust is in fact the basis of the entire digital industry (and the physical economy, for that matter), and the companies that currently exist in the central authorities are conducted in block chain interruptions. The money itself is confidence. A currency is a sign of confidence. A coin has a value, because you trust that others in exchange for goods or services will not accept, and the institution, which protects this trust is the Central. If you thought that no confidence in your coins and notes, you stop it strong enough to use, and you find something that people on the value of trust. The consequences of the suspension chain for digital marketing There are many areas of the digital economy, we have to respond to a central authority to ensure confidence. A good example is programmatic announcement. If a random site you have never heard, saying "your ad on my site, is of millions of people will see, would you trust them? No, I do not. You have no way of knowing that they have the truth on the number of people who can see. even if we have a system in which you built the number of views of the screen is measured instead of the guests of confidence, then you would know not whether this panorama the side of the owners, view of accounts to consolidate real people or just bots were used and makes money. This confidence in the success of the central authorities and the world of digital advertising, which the arbiter of the rules to ensure the confidence to guarantee.
